Bring Back the Sonics

This past week, Kevin Durant showed Seattle some love.  It was the city where he started his career after the Sonics drafted him with the second overall pick in the 2007 draft.  He only spent one season in Seattle, but the city and culture clearly left an impression on him, as evidenced by his speech here:

Bringing a Sonics team back to Seattle is long overdue.  There is a dynamic basketball culture in the city, which has churned out numerous NBA stars over the years (Jamal Crawford, Brandon Roy, Nate Robinson, Isaiah Thomas – to name a few).

In addition to the city’s genuine love for the game and sports in general (see the fanbases for the 12th Man – Seahawks, and the Sounders), the Sonics have a rich history.  Prior to the Seattle Storm winning the WNBA title and the Seahawks winning a Super Bowl in 2014, the Sonics were the only major sports team to win a title for the city (1979).  And who can forget the Sonics teams from the 90s with Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton.  For the ignorant amongst us, enjoy the highlights below:
